2020 Vision Funding the Future How much should I give? This is always a tricky question. Obviously, better-off people can give much more than some of our less well to do parishioners. If everyone of those on our electoral roll could see it as their responsibility to give regularly and joined our regular giving scheme, then our financial Vision would be met through to 2020 at least. One helpful concept is ‘Pay for A Day’. After income from our trusts, local companies and the choir is taken into account, we estimate it costs £850 a day to run our church. That translates roughly to a Gift Aid donation to St. Bride’s of £60 per month. It’s said that you are giving the right amount when there is a little sense of ‘ouch’ when writing the cheque.
Giving by standing order and Gift Aid helps us in a major way to plan ahead and look to the future. The good news is that if you are a taxpayer and you fill in a Gift Aid declaration, The Chancellor will give us 28p for every pound you give. And if you are a higher rate taxpayer you can recover another 23p in every pound you give, by recording your donation on your tax return.
