Funding the Future

Our financial situation

Five years ago our Appeal successfully re-endowed the fund which provides us with an important part of our income; if we think about the church’s income being allocated equally to meet costs over the course of one year, income from the Appeal would be enough to pay for about 90 days. Personal giving from the 380 people on our electoral roll and those who attend our services pays for about 80 days.

Needless to say our expenses are increasing – not least the recent substantial rises in Common Fund that we are required to make to the work of poorer churches in our diocese and the wider church, and not to mention the impact on our Appeal fund of the current economic conditions.

We estimate that, if we do nothing, our Appeal fund will have been reduced to zero in as little as ten years – that is why we need to increase our income by £40,000 each year. One important question is whether we could do more to contain expenditure and the PCC and Churchwardens are continually looking for ways to do this without damaging the experience which makes St. Bride’s the special place we believe it is.
