Stephen Abbott began his musical training as a chorister at Salisbury Cathedral, under Richard Seal. In 1983, following courses at London University and King Alfred's College, Winchester, and a teaching post in Northamptonshire; he joined the staff of Bishop Wordsworth's School. As well as sharing responsibility for pastoral care in the Lower School and teaching Music, he has directed the school choir, one of the school's most active extra-curricular activities, producing six recordings and regularly taking the choir on tour, most recently to Oxford, London, Edinburgh, Paris and Bruges. Alongside his teaching commitments, he has, since 1985, been Decani counter-tenor in Salisbury Cathedral Choir, singing daily Evensong and appearing recently as a soloist in Handel Messiah, Haydn Requiem and Bach St John Passion.
