Riccardo Gnudi was born in Pisa and is a graduate from the L. Cherubini Conservatoire of Florence, where he has studied Organ and Organ Composition with Giovanni Clavorà Braulin. He has also studied piano, harpsichord, harmony, counterpoint, fugue, vocal composition, theory and history. He holds the Post-gradum Diploma in Organ from the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome with Roberto Marini. He is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists.

 

He has attended masterclasses with well-known organists such as J Scott, S Landale, D Goode, J Parsons, G Brooks, F Blanc and W Capek in Florence, Rome, Pisa, Paris, London and Oxford. In August 2012 he was awarded a bursary by the Cambridge Academy of Organ Studies to attend a masterclass on English repertoire with D Ponsford, J Parsons, A Page and P Dubois. He has collaborated with T Flury OSB and other gregorian specialists at Einsiedeln Abbey, Switzerland, to the organ accompaniment "Gregoriano Simplex", published in volumes from September 2008.

 

His organ music and choral works has been published by Edizioni Il Campano, Pisa, and has received many positive comments in Italy and abroad and some of his works have been performed in USA and Denmark during 2014. He has published a book about the Grand Organ of the National Church of St Stefano dei Cavalieri, Pisa, in occasion of the 100th anniversary celebration of its rebuilding (1914-2014).

 

As an accompanist at the organ he has played major works by F Liszt, JS Bach, M Duruflé, WA Mozart, A Dvorak, L Perosi, and D Bartolucci with important choral ensembles such as the Conservatoire Chamber Choir, Florence, and the PIMS Choir, Rome.

 

He has held various positions during his career: he has served at his village parish Church (1998-2011), at the Pieve of Cascina (2001-5), at the Pieve of Filettole (2005), at the Waldensian Temple, Florence (old Holy Trinity Anglican Church) as Concert organist and Music Advison (2006-10), Official Organist of Corale St Genesio, San Miniato (2006-11).

 

As a recitalist he regularly plays in Italy and abroad and he has given many European and Italian Prémieres of modern and contemporary works such as "Catechism" by the American composer F Frahm at St Stefano dei Cavalieri, Pisa, in October 2013 and the Sonata Op.2 by Herbert Howells at the Basilica of St Maria Maggiore, Bergamo, in August 2014.

 

He is Titular Organist and Director of Music at the National Church of St Stefano dei Cavalieri in Pisa since October 2009 - where he is also Artistic Director and founder of the national and international recital series at the symphonic Grand Organ and Assistant Organist at the world-famous Pisa Cathedral since April 2010.
