Carolyn Wharton was born in London and began her formal training as a student in the junior department at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she won first prize in the piano competition. She then took a degree in music at Kings College London where she received the highest first in the University for Performance. She returned to the Guildhall as a postgraduate where she studied with Joan Havill on the Solo Advanced Studies Performance Course and won a scholarship from the Rayne Foundation. During this time she also obtained her LTCM from Trinity College of Music. Carolyn has performed at numerous venues as a concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.
