Andrew Watts, counter-tenor


Andrew WattsAndrew was born in Middlesex and studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Geoffrey Mitchell.

Recent concerts include appearances with Klangforum at the Salzburg Festival, Ensemble Modern in Cologne for WDR, London Sinfonietta at the Queen Elizabeth and Barbican Halls, the Hanover Band, Capella Savaria in France, the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast, Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain in Switzerland and the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican.

Andrew's many operatic engagements include the title role in Gluck's Orpheus and Euridice, Arsamenes Xerxses and The Fairy Queen for English National Opera, Bishop Baldwin Gawain for the Royal Opera Covent Garden, Second Witch Dido and Aeneas and Grace Venus and Adonis for De Vlaamse Opera, Antwerp, Oberon A Midsummer Night's Dream at Broomhill, Jeremy in the world premiere of Olga Neuwirth's opera Bahlamms Fest in Vienna, James in Harrison Birtwistle's The Last Supper for Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin and Glyndebourne Touring Opera and Celinda L'antiope at the Dresdener Musikfestspiele and the Handelfestspiele in Halle. Andrew features on recordings for ASV of Boyce's Ode to St. Cecilia and David's Lamentation with the Hanover Band, Olga Neuwirth's Five Daily Miniatures with Klangforum and the premiere recording of Lost Objects for Teldec. He was also heard in Sally Potter's film Orlando.
