On Tuesday 24th January, 2012, at 11:30am a service of thanksgiving for the life of Geoff Thompson, sports writer and editor, was held at St Bride's Church, Fleet Street.
The Venerable David Meara delivered the bidding:-
We gather today in St Bride's, parish church of Fleet Street and all who work in newspapers to remember Geoff Thompson, a great sports writer and editor, who began his journalistic career in Reading first on the Evening Post and then the Chronicle, moving to the News of the World, and then to the Irish Sun.
We remember Geoff as a consummate sports writer and reporter, who loved football, especially his beloved Liverpool, a supportive friend and colleague, who was devoted to his family.
As we remember Geoff today, so we can commend him to Almighty God, confident that at the end of our brief day is the eternity of God's love.
Amen.

Gareth Davies read Philippians 4: 4-9
4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
