St Bride's: News

Advent & Christmas at St Bride's

In the National Gallery in London there are three paintings of the Adoration of The Shepherds. One is by Guido Reni, a seventeenth century painter, and it shows Mary with the baby Jesus in the centre, Joseph by their side, and a large crowd of shepherds gazing at the scene, with others running down the hillside, eager to join in. Angels look down from above reflecting the light of Christ back down onto the scene.

In Reni's painting this light falls on the shepherds, their faces filled with wonder and astonishment. Each year our Christmas celebrations offer us the opportunity to experience that sense of awe, and at St Bride's we invite you to join us as we too journey in heart and mind to the stable in Bethlehem.

Through our carol services, Advent readings and our rich musical offering we hope you will find that fresh sense of wonder at the birth of Jesus, the light of Christ shining at the darkest time of year. I invite you, amidst all your Christmas preparations, to find time to ponder in your heart the good news of the birth of Immanuel - God with us.

May God bless you and those whom you love during this holy season.

The Venerable David Meara
Rector of St Bride's

All are welcome to join the children as we explore the Nativity Story. Costumes are provided and children who wish to dress up are invited to arrive early. There will be refreshments and craft activities afterwards.

Lord God, as we set out on the road to Bethlehem lead us on our journey, give us a spirit of expectancy, so that we may kneel in wonder at the Christ child, and sing with the angels "Glory to God in the highest!" Amen.
