Advent Carols

advent st brides.jpgThis year's Advent Carol service on Sunday 3rd December at 6:30pm will follow the usual custom of beginning at the West end of the church and progressing to the altar steps for the closing part of the service.

Musical items are a mixture of the familiar and the contemporary - this year we shall begin with Herbert Howells's iconic setting of A spotless rose, and other traditional pieces include William Byrd's lively setting of Vigilate and John Stainer's How beautiful upon the mountains.

Modern repertoire begins with Michael Higgins's arrangement of The angel Gabriel, then the final group of unaccompanied pieces are all from the late 20th and early 21st century. This includes Kenneth Leighton's setting of the quintessential Advent text Of a rose is all my song.

The service takes place at 6:30pm.
