Remembering Gaby - Worldwide - October 6, 2003

It was perhaps entirely appropriate that the Memorial Service for Channel 4 journalist Gaby Rado, held at St Bride's on September 18th, should be the subject of a unique live webcast from the Fleet Street Church on the Channel 4 website.

As a distinguished television reporter, Gaby would have appreciated the fact that this special broadcast enabled those friends and colleagues who were unable to attend the Service to still pay their own personal tribute to him, through the medium of television.

Amongst the members of Gaby's family, colleagues and friends who packed the Church to celebrate his eventful life, there were many well-known faces such as newscasters Jon Snow and Sir Trevor McDonald.

As the journalists' Church, St Bride's is familiar with the hosting of memorials ch as this. Its very special atmosphere, the beauty of its rich choral tradition and surroundings are always, much appreciated by all those who mourn and attend these services.

But this latest development in media technology has meant that through the internet such moments and the overall ministry of St Bride's can be shared by many people throughout the world.

It is a blessing which Wynkyn de Worde, who brought his printing press alongside St Bride's Church in the year 1500 to begin the whole story of Fleet Street journalism, could scarcely have imagined.
