Allegra Stratton speaking at the annual Journalists Service at St Brides

Our ministry to journalism and to those working in every area of the media industry remains one of the most important and distinctive aspects of our life at St Bride’s.

Its significance is never more apparent than at our annual Journalists’ Commemorative Service, which is attended by leading figures in the world of the press, television, radio, and digital media. Each year the keynote address is given by a leading figure from within the industry.

Candles lit at annual Journalists Commemorative Service

During the service we light candles for journalists, photographers, camera-crew, and support staff who have died or who have been killed on the front-line; we remember also those who are missing, imprisoned, or held hostage; and we also hold in prayer those who are out in the field, covering stories at great personal risk to themselves.

Marie Colvin giving the inaugural Journalists Commemorative service address

Our inaugural service took place in 2010 in the presence of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall with an address by Marie Colvin. It is particularly poignant that ten years after Marie spoke, Paul Conroy came to give the address. Paul not only worked with Marie but was injured in the same incident in which she died in Syria in 2012 – both victims of the increasing level of violence against journalists.

Below is an archive of the Order of Service, transcripts of readings and addresses, and a full audio recording of each service (audio available from 2012).
