'Mary went to the disciples with the news "I have seen the Lord" ' (John 20: 18)

In 1st century Palestine, calling Jesus 'Lord' was a highly subversive act with all sorts of political and religious ramifications. But the resurrection vindicated Jesus' claims about himself and gave his followers hope that they were the beginnings of the Church, whose earliest proclamation was 'Jesus is Lord'.

Lord Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, may we proclaim your Lordship over our lives and so become an Easter people whose song is Alleluia, and whose vision is the coming-in of your Kingdom. Amen.
