'Jesus said "you are right to say I am a King" ' (John 18: 37)

Of all the four Gospels only John records the private dialogue between Pilate and Jesus. They discuss Kingship together but Pilate cannot understand that Jesus is identifying himself as King of Truth. The inscription on the cross proclaimed Jesus as King, but a King whose rule is characterised by love and self-giving, servanthood and sacrifice.

Lord God, as we watch at the foot of the cross may we more fully understand what your Kingship means, and offer our hearts and lives in loving service of our Lord Jesus. Amen.
