'I saw you under the fig tree' (John 1: 50)

Nathanael, in the story of his encounter with Jesus, was spotted sitting under the fig tree. This appears to have been a place where Nathanael went to pray and wrestle with God. We all need places where we can just sit and be ourselves, where we can find the sense of peace that comes from being alone. We all need such places, even if we only inhabit them occasionally, where we can be led to a deep and lasting sense of peace.

Lord God, help me to find the time and place to rest in your company, so that your peace may fill my whole being and flow through me to those whom I meet. Amen.
