'What does a man gain if he wins the whole world and ruins his deepest self?' (Luke 9:25)

What are our goals and values in life? Are they just focused on getting and spending, or do we take time to nurture our inner self and renew our spiritual capital? History is littered with examples of people who have won the jackpot in material terms but made a mess of their lives in every other way. How can we find the right balance in our lives and aim for the right goals?

Lord, help me discern the true values that should underpin my life, and not be seduced by superficial goals. May I learn how to nurture my inner self and so look outwards to others and to you. Amen
