'Did not our hearts burn within us?' (Luke 24: 32)

Two people are walking along the road, their heads sunk in sadness. All their expectations of the teacher Jesus have come to nothing. But then a third person joins them and gradually they realise that he is Jesus. Their hearts leap for joy and they return to Jerusalem to share the news with their friends. Joys don't come without sorrows, but we must pray that we can face live with joy and enthusiasm.

Lord God, give us your joy. May our hearts burn within us as we celebrate the power of the Resurrection and your presence with us this day. Amen.
