'They would not accept him.' (Matthew 13:57)
Rejection can be very difficult to cope with. Jesus was regarded as an upstart because to his contemporaries, carpenters didn't become teachers. They couldn't grasp that sometimes the Holy Spirit calls us to make a big shift in our attitudes. Because we find change threatening or bewildering, people often close their minds. Jesus left us a good example of how to deal with that kind of rejection. He remained patient and resolute.
Lord, when we face rejection, help us to seek to understand, and grant us patience and love to remain faithful to ourselves and to you. Amen.
