'Let me boast of my own feebleness.' (2 Corinthians 11:30)
Paul boasts about how hard he has worked, how much he has had to endure, even of his own weakness. Boasting is unpleasant, so does this reveal a darker side to St Paul? He could certainly be difficult and arrogant. But his real concern is God's Kingdom and his boasting is to counter the undermining of his work by some in Corinth. He didn't want human approval: he wanted the Gospel to flourish.
Father, free us from the desire for human approval or worldly recognition so that we can become more Christ-like in our lives. Amen
