St Bride's: Soul Thoughts

December 13

"I stand at the door and knock." (Revelation 3: 20)

There is a famous painting which hangs in St Paul's Cathedral in London called 'The Light of the World' by William Holman Hunt, which depicts Christ knocking at a door covered in briars. It is an illustration of this verse from the Book of Revelation. The Lord wants to be our guest and to share in our lives. If we respond to him he will sit and eat with us, a pledge that one day we shall share in the eternal feast of heaven.

Lord, You stand on the threshold of our hearts. Help us to welcome you with gratitude, because you satisfy our deepest needs. Amen.
