St Bride's: Soul Thoughts

January 17

"Shine in the world like bright stars" (Philippians 2: 15)

The nineteenth century poet John Keats wrote a love sonnet which begins "Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art...", and goes on to describe the constancy of the star looking down on the waves and tides, mountains and moors. The poet hopes to be as faithful to his love as the star is to its task. Paul calls his fellow Christians to "shine in the world like bright stars." Like Keats we can all yearn to be steadfast in our faith, like the bright star in the sky.

Lord God, give us faith that is constant and steadfast, offering ourselves in your service and shining in the world like bright stars. Amen.
