St Bride's: Soul Thoughts

January 9

"Jesus was in a certain place praying." (Luke 11:1)

It's often hard to step out of the humdrum round of everyday life and find time to be quiet. Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk, once wrote 'there must be a time of day when the person who makes plans forgets those plans and acts as if there were no plans at all.' We are called sometimes to leave aside our busy-ness and routines and to learn a different wisdom in the stillness of solitude and through the wonder of nature.

Lord, help us to step back from the activities of the day and to come close to you. May we treasure such moments and find in them strength for daily living. Amen.
