St Bride’s Patronal Festival: Choral Eucharist with Orchestra
Join us as we come together to celebrate our patron saint, St Bride – otherwise known as St Brigid of Kildare – as she takes centre stage in this annual festival service on Sunday 5th Feburary at 11am.
To mark of our patronal fesitval, we are delighted that the St Bride’s Orchestra will be joining our choir in a performance of Mozart’s Missa Solemnis in C, K337.
Completed in March 1780, the Missa Solemnis is the last Mass-setting Mozart wrote for Archbishop Colloredo in Salzburg, and indeed the last Mass which he composed.
Colloredo had strong views that settings be short and not overly elaborate. However, Mozart’s talent was not easily suppressed. A penitential, subdued Kyrie makes way for an energetic and cheerful Gloria. The work ends with an Agnus Dei perhaps more suited to the world of opera with gorgeous vocal lines and exquisite instrumental writing.

A pre-recorded version of this service will also stream online on this page at the same time as the service in church, and on our pages at Facebook, YouTube and SoundCloud.
