A First for Canon Meara

The first survey of the highly skilled craft of memorial brass design and manufacture to chart the flowering of the industry between 1880 and 2001 has been written by Canon David Meara, Rector of St Bride's, Fleet Street, in the heart of London.

Entitled Modern Memorial Brasses, the book contains more than 300 pages, including 196 plates and is a special contribution to the study of these brasses and the history of commemoration in the 20th century. Art historians and anyone involved in the study of church monuments and ecclesiology will find the book an invaluable source of information.

David Meara read classics and theology at Oxford University before being ordained as an Anglican priest. He is currently President of the Monumental Brass Society and is an acknowledged expert in the study of Victorian and modern brasses.

Modern Memorial Brasses is priced at £35 and can be bought direct from the publishers: Shaun Tyas Publishing, 1 High Street, Donington, Lincolnshire, PE11 4TA or from Amazon (via the link above).
