Mayoress inspects St Bride's

This year's Lady Mayoress, Dr Clare Gifford, has set herself the target of visiting all the City Churches during her mayorial year.

On Tuesday 11th June, she came to St Bride's and was invited to climb the scaffolding surrounding our tower and spire to see for herself the progress of the work of restoration, the first phase of our Inspire! Appeal.

She climbed to the top and was shown the dramatic effects of weathering and pollution which have caused the stonework of Wren's beautiful spire to decay. After inspecting the work in progress she visited the church and saw something of the history of this ancient site which goes back to the 2nd century AD. She also saw our collection of skeletons and 16th century charnel house.

You could say that the Lady Mayoress has viewed St Bride's from top to bottom: we hope she found her visit interesting and inspiring.
