Lunchtime recitals go online

Lunchtime recitals go online

The first of our weekly online recitals takes place on Tuesday 16th June.

Despite the restrictions of lockdown, we're delighted that lunchtime recitals will resume in 'virtual' form - being streamed as live on Facebook - every Tuesday lunchtime from 1.15 to 1.45.

There has been a recital series at St Bride's for more than 25 years, and in a 'normal' year the church would present about 80 recitals, welcoming a wide range of musicians: pianists, singers and instrumentalists, including accordionists, brass quartets, choirs, harpists, lutenists, organists, string orchestras and even a xylophonist.

We've hosted Finalists from the Wigmore Hall International String Quartets Competition, BBC Musicians of the Year and Radio 3 Young Artists. Our reputation seems to have spread around the world because, aside from UK musicians, we've had performers fly in from most European countries as well as Russia, Japan, Singapore, China, South America and the US. This success, in no small measure, is thanks to the invaluable experience gained over the last 25 years, the beautiful setting, the volunteers and the Office team behind the scenes.

During lockdown, we have immense sympathy for all those artists whose recitals have had to be postponed or cancelled. We are therefore delighted to be able to feature some of them in our online recitals, and we very much look forward to the time when, once again, we'll be able to listen to them 'live' and when, once again, they will be able to hear the applause they so richly deserve.

We will be presenting a weekly online recital comprised of audio tracks from recitalists unable to perform live at St Bride's.

These will be streamed on Facebook Premiere at 1.15 on Tuesdays, lasting about 30 minutes. You can listen as live or at a later date.

Our first online recital will take place on Tuesday 16th June, featurung the pianist Julieta Iglesias who has provided a programme of music by Debussy, Ravel, Hadyn and Chopin. Follow the link now to set a reminder for the event
