Children and Fellowship

Sunday School

Sunday School Favela.jpgSince 1987 on a Sunday morning (except in the summer holidays) children of the church have had the opportunity to meet, talk and reflect on their beliefs in the comfort of the Sunday School. Older children (4-11 year olds) are invited to listen to and discuss a Bible story followed by prayers and singing then a weekly activity or games. The younger children (0-4 year olds) are invited to play with toys and read books as well as joining in with singing and prayers.

The Sunday School not only offers the parents of the church a safe place to leave their children, but more importantly offers the children a welcoming place where they can come to know God in a context they can understand.

Other events and activities

DB_Beating_Bounds.jpgOccasional study groups have been held at specific times of year, confirmation preparation sessions take place when there is demand - last year, 17 people of all ages were confirmed - and there is a book group which meets every month in people's homes.

At Ascensiontide, we hold the ceremony of Beating the Bounds, when we process round part of the parish and usually take refreshment on the way.

In July, we hold a Summer Party and barbeque in the churchyard to encourage those who work in the area to come through the gates; we often have live music and stalls selling a variety of goods.

hodge.jpgIn the autumn, we host the annual Tom Olsen Lecture, set up in memory of a former journalist to look at issues of freedom and responsibility. This has been held for the last 23 years, and speakers have included David Attenborough, Andrew Marr, John Simpson, Jane Asher, Ann Widdecombe, George Osborne, PD James and Margaret Hodge.
