During the years when the journalists John McCarthy and Terry Anderson were held captive in the Lebanon (1985-1991), all-night prayer vigils were held for them, and for all other hostages, at an altar in St Bride’s.

This was the origin of our Journalists’ Altar, at which we commemorate with photo plaques those working within the media who have died, are held hostage, or whose fate is unknown. #Journalists_Altar

There are so many plaques that we are unable to have them all on display, so we rotate them throughout the year.

If you are visiting the altar to remember a friend, family member, or colleague, or would like to enquire about adding a photo plaque in memory of someone who worked in the profession, please contact claire.seaton@stbrides.com.
