The Artist

Sungbin Cho is a Nottingham-based classical guitarist active as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher, dedicated to advocating for the expressive beauty of the classical guitar. Having discovered the instrument in his early teens, Sungbin pursued formal musical training and graduated with a BMus from the Korea National University of Arts. Seeking to further develop his artistic voice, he later moved to the UK with his wife, luthier Yun Young Shin, who is the crafter of the guitar Sungbin plays today.

In 2022, Sungbin completed an MA in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied under the renowned guitarist Michael Lewin. He went on to earn an Advanced Diploma in 2023, becoming the first Korean national admitted to the Academy’s classical guitar department. These formative years shaped his musical identity, grounding his playing in both technical refinement and expressive depth.

An accomplished and award-winning performer, Sungbin is the winner of the 2021 London International Guitar Competition and the 2023 Blyth Watson Guitar Concerto Prize. He has appeared at leading venues including Kings Place Hall, St James’s Church Piccadilly and Duke’s Hall in London, and continues to perform widely across the UK. Through his concerts, Sungbin is committed to sharing the guitar’s rich expressive potential with diverse audiences and fostering a genuine sense of connection through live music.

Sungbin’s highly anticipated debut album, released on Friday 9th January 2026 with the prestigious label Deux-Elles, marks an important milestone in his artistic journey. The album presents a carefully curated programme that blends timeless classical works each chosen for its distinct character and his unique connection with the piece. Sungbin Cho’s dedication to both artistry and authenticity, promises a programme that is as emotionally resonant as it is musically profound.
