Welcome to ‘Piano Month’ at St Bride’s – celebrating the acquisition of our new Steinberg Grand Piano.

The Artists

Alice Chua MA, FLCM, LLCM, Adv Dip Kodály is a passionate musician, innovative educator, composer, arranger, and music author. When based in Malaysia and Singapore, she served as Chief Music Instructor for Yamaha Music Asia, where she established new schools in Singapore, Malaysia, and Myanmar, and developed early-years music programmes in Indonesia. Her role included training teachers and designing country-specific curricula, and she represented Malaysia at international conferences hosted by the Yamaha Music Foundation.

Now residing in London with her daughter, Alice divides her time between teaching, and serving as an examiner and adjudicator across Europe and the Far East. She has authored numerous music education series widely used in Asia and the United Kingdom. Her publications include the popular Playing Piano is Fun (PpiF) and Art of Teaching (AoT), and her latest release, Learning Theory is Fun (LTiF).

Mitra Alice Tham MA, MM, PGDipRAM, B Mus(Hons), FLCM, LRAM, LMusA, ATCL gave her first public performance at the age of three and made her international debut at eight in Japan. Originally from Malaysia and a prizewinner at international competitions, she has performed for distinguished dignitaries including HRH The Prince of Wales, who described her performance as “brilliant and excellent”. She gave the London premiere of Leroy Anderson’s Piano Concerto and was invited to a reception, ‘A Celebration of Young People in the Performing Arts’, hosted by Her late Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Mitra was specially commissioned to compose an anthem for her second national project in Malaysia, Maharani Energy Gateway, one of the Malaysian King’s most significant and visionary initiatives. The project was launched in November 2025.

She is regularly invited to give recitals, masterclasses, lecture-recitals and seminars on piano pedagogy, performance etiquette, composition and adjudication in South East Asia and the United Kingdom. www.mitraalicetham.com
