The Artists

Founded in September 2020, The Schola Cantorum are the girl choristers of King’s College School, who regularly sing services and concerts in Cambridge and further afield. Recent venues include St Clement’s Church in Cambridge, as well as the chapels of King’s College, Emmanuel College, Corpus Christi College, Magdalene College and Queens’ College. They have also sung in Winchester Cathedral, Winchester College, Chelmsford Cathedral, St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Lancing College Chapel, Ipswich Minster, St Bride’s Church Fleet Street, St George’s Church Hanover Square and The Church of the Holy Sepulchre (the National Musicians Church) in London. Later this term they will join with the City of London Choir and the Hanover Band to perform Bach’s St Matthew Passion at Cadogan Hall.

Members of the Schola Cantorum also have the opportunity to participate in the School’s specialist music training programme, which includes small group tuition of music theory and composition, and (for instrumental players) ensemble and orchestra rehearsals. In return for their commitment to the choir and in recognition of their work, the children each receive a bursary towards the cost of their individual weekly music lessons.

King’s College School, Cambridge is a co-educational day and boarding Prep School, offering pupils aged 4 to 13 a forward thinking education, whilst maintaining its fine heritage and traditions. Girls and boys benefit from our small class sizes, dedicated teaching staff and first class facilities in central Cambridge.

Pupils of all ages learn and play in leafy surrounds, with space to dream and imagine. Our well-appointed site on West Road, includes the recently completed Sport and Cultural Centre that offers a purpose built space for concerts, lectures, PE and games lessons, and much more. Next door is an outdoor swimming pool, which is enjoyed in the warmer months, and opposite is the Music Department, home to two floors of bespoke music classrooms, practice rooms and ensemble rehearsal spaces. The newly opened Dining Hall winds round to the tennis courts, squash court, astro turf and adventure playground.

Parents who are interested in discovering more about the opportunities at King’s College School are invited to contact the Registrar for further information and to arrange a tour of the school: admissions@kcs.cambs.sch.uk
