The Artists

Formed in 2022 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, CATIL Quintet is a London-based wind ensemble comprising Charis Lai (oboe), Alex Ho (flute), Thaïs Bordes (bassoon), Isabella Ackland (horn) and Lily Payne (clarinet). United by a shared passion for chamber music and outreach, they are committed to delivering vibrant, engaging performances across a wide range of repertoire.

Since their debut, CATIL Quintet has performed at esteemed venues including LSO St Luke’s, the Guildhall Chamber Festival and the Guildhall Chamber at Six series. Their work has also taken them abroad, including a private concert in Toulouse, and they are recipients of several accolades such as the Guildhall Oboe & Bassoon Prize and the Guildhall Needlemakers Woodwind Prize. In 2025, they were named finalists in the Tunnell Trust Award Scheme and will potentially tour as part of the Trust’s Chamber Music Series.

Alongside performance, the quintet is deeply invested in education and outreach, regularly collaborating with schools and youth organisations such as the City of Norwich School, Barnet Education Arts Trust and Guildhall Young Artists in Norwich. They have also taken part in masterclasses with leading wind musicians including Mariam Adam. Through their dynamic programming and commitment to accessibility, CATIL Quintet seeks to celebrate the richness of wind repertoire while engaging new audiences and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
