Celebrating St Brigid in word and song

Wednesday 1st February, 2023, at 11:55 am

All are welcome to attend this free lunchtime event to celebrate St Brigid, more commonly known to us here in Fleet Street as St Bride, on her feast day, Wednesday 1st February.

The event begins at 11:55am so that the one minute “Pause for Peace” can be observed at 12 noon.

St Brigid of Kildare and the abbesses who succeeded her were renowned as peacemakers in early Ireland. By taking a moment to pause for peace on St Brigid’s day the intention is to send out a message opposing warfare and the proliferation of arms.

We are hosting this recital of words and music for the Irish Chaplaincy. The programme includes poems in English and Irish, a reflection about the life and work of St Brigid and a reflection about women and peace-making. For further information please email admin@irishchaplaincy.org.uk.

We at St Bride’s will be marking the feast of our patron saint with a special orchestral service of Choral Eucharist on Sunday 5th February at 11am. We hope you can join us then to hear more about the inspirational life of St Bride. Find out more.
