Celebrating St Brigid in word and song

Thursday 1st February, 2024, at 11:50 am

All are welcome to attend this free lunchtime event to celebrate Brigid of Kildare, in this her 1500th anniversary year. Brigid is more commonly known to us here in Fleet Street as St Bride and the event takes place on her feast day, Thursday 1st February.

The event begins at 11:50am so that the one minute “Pause for Peace” can be observed at 12 noon.

St Brigid of Kildare and the abbesses who succeeded her were renowned as peacemakers in early Ireland. By taking a moment to pause for peace on St Brigid’s day the intention is to send out a message opposing warfare and the proliferation of arms.

We are sharing this service of prayer, reflection and music on the life and work of St Brigid with our friends from the Irish Chaplaincy in London, and we are delighted to be welcoming representatives from L’Arche Ireland who are joining us this year.

The service will be led by The Revd Dr Jeff Lake, one of our associate priests here at St Bride’s.

We at St Bride’s will be marking the feast of our patron saint with a special orchestral service of Choral Eucharist on Sunday 4th February at 11am. We hope you can join us then to hear more about the inspirational life of St Bride. Find out more.
