Celebrating St Brigid in word and song
All are welcome to attend this short service to celebrate Brigid of Kildare.
Brigid is more commonly known to us here in Fleet Street as St Bride, our matron saint, and the event takes place on her feast day, 1st February.
This simple service of prayer, reflection and music is at 12 noon, downstairs in the main crypt chapel and begins with the one minute “Pause for Peace”.
St Brigid and the abbesses who succeeded her at Kildare were renowned as peacemakers in early Ireland. By taking a moment to pause for peace on St Brigid’s day the intention is to send out a message opposing warfare and the proliferation of arms. The Global Pause for Peace Movement was launched at Solas Bhríde in Kildare, Ireland, in January 2023.
The service will be led by The Revd Canon Dr Alison Joyce, Rector of St Bride’s, with our friends from the Irish Chaplaincy in London taking part.
We will also be marking the feast of our matron saint with a special orchestral service of Choral Eucharist on Sunday 26th January at 11am. We hope you can join us then to hear more about the inspirational life of St Bride. Find out more.
