Psalm: 33: 1-12
Canticles: Short Evening Service – Orlando Gibbons

Organ Voluntary: Fantazia of foure parts – Orlando Gibbons
All the music at Choral Evensong today is by Orlando Gibbons in honour of the 400th anniversary of his death on 4th June 1625.
By the time Gibbons was thirty he was undoubtedly the most important musician and composer at the court of King James I. His flourishing career was cut short by his untimely death in 1625 but he left his mark in the music he wrote and the significant influence he exerted on subsequent composers.
Choral Evensong is one of the glories of traditional Anglican worship and the nation’s cultural heritage. In place of a preached sermon, this service features a Sermon in Music which gives our professional choir the opportunity to sing an extended anthem, or sequence of anthems, on a theme relevant to the liturgical season. All are welcome to attend this beautiful and reflective weekly event.
