The Artists

Augustin Cornwall-Irving is a lute, guitar and theorbo player from London, and trained at the Royal College of Music (RCM) as a David Laing and Ian Evans Lombe Scholar. In 2018, he performed in the Anne Boleyn Music Book concert at the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall and gave a lecture recital on the history of the lute for the RCM Guitar Festival. In 2019, he performed in Emma Kirkby’s 70th anniversary concert and began collaborating with Dowland Works. Augustin has performed at prestigious venues including St John’s Smith Square, Lewes Festival of Song and Trinity College Cambridge. In 2020, he gave a solo lute recital for HRH The Prince of Wales and appeared on BBC Radio 3’s Early Music Show. He also recorded with the Taverner Consort and won first prize in the RCM Historical Performance Competition in 2022.

Byung-ook Kim is a lutenist and guitarist from South Korea. He holds a Bachelor of Music in guitar and a Master of Music in lute from the RCM. Specialising in both modern and historical stringed instruments, he is particularly focused on early music. In 2022, he played the bandora as part of a broken consort during the RCM Guitar Festival’s Julian Bream celebration. Byung-ook has performed in various RCM venues, and in 2024, performed on theorbo with the Imperial College Chamber Choir at Holy Trinity South Kensington.

In 2024, Augustin Cornwall-Irving and Byung-ook Kim formed the Cornwall Kim Lute Duo, debuting at St John’s Church, Fulham. The duo plans to continue performing together, bringing early music to audiences across the UK.
