The Artist
Dominic Downs is a UK recital pianist, trained at Cheetham’s School of Music, currently studying with Dr Murray McLachlan while he has additional coaching from Professor Danny Driver of the Royal College of Music. Dominic’s programmes are designed for church and civic spaces, and are concise, varied and engaging. In the 2024/25 season he gave 27 solo recitals around the UK, alongside chamber concerts, performed at a sold-out RNCM concert alongside Steven Osborne, and performed live accompaniments to silent movies and found time for some jazz performances too. BBC One (October 2023) described him as “an exceptional talent with a bright future ahead of him,” and the Southport News (November 2024) hailed his recital as “the performance of a true virtuoso.”
The 2025/26 programmes focus on the breadth of the piano tradition and includes major works by Schubert and Debussy as well as Chopin, Kabalevsky and expressive miniatures by Cécile Chaminade and Marie Jaëll. Dominic is a natural raconteur; his brief, well-judged introductions and anecdotes from piano history consistently help audiences connect with the music. Formats are available in 45-, 60- 75- and 90 minute versions.
Recent performance highlights include Greyfriars (Edinburgh), St Luke’s Music & Wine Series (Brighton), Northumbria University, Westminster Music Library, and a return booking at Christ Church Southport. Dominic also maintains a busy teaching studio, gives masterclasses and workshops, and serves as Music Director of the Lancaster Millennium Choir.
As a neurodivergent artist (ADHD/autistic), he collaborates with the ADHD Foundation to raise awareness through performance. dominicdowns.co.uk
