The Artist

Hayden Payne is studying organ at the Royal College of Music. He was interested in music from the age of five and was a member of his school choir. He then joined Bath Abbey Melody Makers, performing in many different venues including a tour to Liverpool Cathedral. Aged eight, Hayden started taking piano lessons and during his time in the Melody Makers he fell in love with the organ. He was a dedicated member of Bath Abbey Boys’ Choir for four years, eventually becoming head chorister. During his time in the choir they sang for the Archbishop of Canterbury, BBC Songs of Praise (live broadcast) and several radio broadcasts. He also sang in many different churches including Liverpool Cathedral, Liverpool Metropolitan and HM Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, as well as touring to the Netherlands and performing under the direction of Peter King, Shean Bowers and Huw Williams.

During Hayden’s time at secondary school he played piano for Mass and organ for the annual Carol Services. He was awarded a full organ scholarship to one of the top music schools in Britain, Chetham’s School of Music, studying the organ with Director of Music and Organist at Manchester Cathedral, Christopher Stokes. During his time at Chetham’s, Hayden played for members of the British Council Office, gained the Mark Master Mason award and was appointed Junior Organ Scholar at Manchester Cathedral, allowing him to play for more services. On top of his studies, Hayden also played for services and recitals in Bath Abbey.

Hayden finished Chetham’s in 2023 by accompanying the Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast at Bridgewater Hall. Last year Hayden played recitals in and around Bristol including St Mary’s, Redcliffe. Next year Hayden will be going on tour to play numerous different organs around the country including venues in Manchester, Wakefield, Exeter, Ireland and Canada.
