The Artist

Hwan Hee Kim is an award-winning South Korean pianist, known for his dynamic performances and commitment to expanding the classical piano repertoire. He has performed internationally across the UK, Europe and Asia, captivating audiences with his artistry and interpretation. His concert appearances include London, Manchester, Aberdeen, Galway, Prague, Budapest, Moscow, Novi Sad, Tbilisi and Manila among others.

Hwan Hee has won numerous international competitions, including the XXVII International Festival ‘Musica Classica’ in Moscow, the XV Art Duo International Music Festival Piano Competition in Prague and the OPUS 2021 Krakow International Music Competition. He has also received accolades from competitions in Vienna, Milan, Hong Kong, Helsinki, Tbilisi and California, showcasing his versatility and technical excellence.

In recent years, he has focused on bringing Korean piano music to the international stage, particularly the works of Kuk Jin Kim (1930–2020). Through his PhD at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, Hwan Hee has premiered and recorded previously unperformed pieces by the composer, integrating them into his concert programmes. His performances, featuring the works of Kuk Jin Kim, have been presented in the RNCM Spotlight Series, the World Piano Conference (Serbia) and recital series across the UK.

Beyond solo performance, Hwan Hee actively collaborates with musicians and educators, sharing his insights through masterclasses and guest artist appearances. His playing is deeply informed by his studies with renowned pianists, including Nita Quinto, Jourdann Petalver, László Baranyay, Rustam Shaykutdinov and Dr Adam Swayne.

With a career spanning both concert performance and artistic research, Hwan Hee continues to champion both Western and Korean piano music, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative programming to audiences worldwide.
