The Artists
Chinese American cellist Jason Ma has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. He has appeared at venues such as the Weill Recital Hall in New York City, St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, and the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
Recent performance highlights include a recital at the Frick Collection in New York City, and Pierre Boulez’s Messagesquisse with the Royal Academy of Music Manson Ensemble, conducted by Susanna Mälkki. He was a 2025 Young Artist at the Manchester Music Festival in Vermont, where he collaborated with artists such as Philip Setzer, Paul Neubauer, Michael Stephen Brown and Anthony McGill. Additional collaborators have included Arisa Fujita, Máté Szücs, and Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Dr Melissa Kraut, and a Master of Arts from the Royal Academy of Music, where he received the Regency Award, Clumber Studio Award, and a DipRAM for an outstanding final recital. In 2025, Jason received an Advanced Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied with Hannah Roberts.
Chinese American pianist Pan Xiao has embraced a multifaceted career as a collaborator, soloist and pedagogue. Currently a Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music, she is particularly recognized for her work with singers and cellists. Pan recently appeared in the semifinals of the Kathleen Ferrier Awards and the finals of the Somerset Song Prize. She was a young artist at the 2025 Two Moors Festival Duos Residency. While at the Academy, Pan received the Marjorie Thomas Art of Song Prize and the Rex Stephens Second Prize for pianists.
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London and Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music near Chicago, Pan holds Master’s degrees in both solo and collaborative piano. Also a graduate of Northwestern’s rigorous dual-degree program, she has Bachelor’s degrees in piano performance and chemistry, finishing both with Honours. Pan currently teaches at King’s College London.
