The Artist
Matthew Morley’s organ studies began as a music scholar at Tonbridge School, Kent and subsequently at the Royal Academy of Music where he studied organ with Christopher Bowers-Broadbent and David Sanger, harpsichord with Virginia Black, and piano accompaniment with Geoffrey Pratley. He won all the major accompaniment prizes and was awarded an MMus in Performance Studies and the Academy’s Certificate of Advanced Studies.
As a recitalist he has performed in many of Britain’s cathedrals including, St Paul’s, Westminster Abbey, and in the USA at St John the Divine in New York, and Washington DC Cathedral.
He now enjoys parallel careers as organist, repetiteur and chorus-master. He regularly directs choruses including those of English National Opera, Opera North, Opera Holland Park, Buxton Festival, The Grange Festival, the BBC Singers and London Voices.
In 1991 he was appointed H J C Stevens Organ Scholar at St Bride’s, and subsequently its first Organist.
