A service of thanksgiving for the life of Barry McIlheney will take place at St Bride’s Church, the Journalists’ Church, on Tuesday 16th September at 11:30am.
Barry McIlheney was a magazine editor, publisher and broadcaster. Born in Belfast, he began in local journalism, before moving to Melody Maker, paving the way for his appointment as editor of Smash Hits in 1986.
After three years, he become founding editor of Empire, and then, as Managing Director of EMAP Metro, oversaw prominent titles such as Mojo and Heat.
Between 2010 and 2020, McIlheney served as CEO of the Professional Publishers Association, promoting the magazine industry’s vital role in UK culture and business.
