Memorial: Bill Newman

A service of thanksgiving for the life of Bill Newman will take place at St Bride’s Church, the Journalists’ Church, on Wednesday 9th April at 11:30am.

Bill Newman was a mainstay of The Sun’s newsroom from its founding in 1964, as associate news editor and then managing editor, until 1998, when he took on the role of the paper’s Ombudsman.

Upon retirement, Newman set up a media briefing business – In The Press – and became a board member of the newly-formed Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) in 2014.

Newman was also a long-term supporter and Trustee of the Journalists’ Charity, with whom the retiring collection at this service will be shared.
