Memorial: Hilary Alexander
A service of thanksgiving for the life of fashion journalist Hilary Alexander will take place at St Bride’s Church, the Journalists’ Church, on Monday 12th June at 12 noon.
Hilary Alexander was a fashion journalist at the Daily Telegraph for over a quarter of a century. Born in New Zealand, she worked as a reporter in Manawatu and Wellington, before moving overseas, firstly as a reporter on the Ballarat Courier in New South Wales then in Hong Kong before finally becoming the Telegraph’s fashion editor in 1985.
A self-confessed workaholic, her relentless pursuit of a story and eye for detail made her a much-loved and respected figure in the fashion industry. She was promoted to director of fashion in 2003 and was a regular guest on TV programmes such as The Clothes Show and GMTV.
Alexander received an OBE in the 2013 Birthday Honours for services to fashion journalism.
