The Artist
Oliver Macfarlane is a concert organist based in Guildford. His full-time music education began at Winchester School of Art followed by 4 years at the Royal College of Music where he gained his graduate and performing diplomas in both piano and organ. Oliver studied organ with Richard Popplewell, Gillian Weir and at the International Summer Academy in Haarlem, Holland, and recently has undertaken further studies in French repertoire with Ben van Oosten in The Hague. Recital venues have included the cathedrals of Bristol, Truro and Worcester, St Michael’s Cornhill, St Stephen’s Walbrook and All Hallows by the Tower. He is also a deputy organist for St Mary’s Church, Stoke D’Abernon and Christ Church, Esher.
Oliver had a long career in broadcasting with the BBC. In Television Classical Music he became series editor of performance output where his portfolio of programmes included the BBC Proms, the prestigious Young Musician of the Year competition, the conducting series Maestro, and many opera and ballet relays from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In 2013 Oliver left the BBC to concentrate on playing the organ.
