The Artist

Praised for his ‘fiercely intelligent musicianship and effortless technique’, Canadian violinist Kevin Ng made his concerto debut at the age of ten and has since appeared with orchestras across Canada and Europe in the concertos of Beethoven, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Bruch, Saint-Saëns, and Berg. He made his international recital debut at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in 2010, and has since appeared in recital and chamber music festivals in England, Austria, Germany and Canada, including a cross-Canada tour of works by Prokofiev and Dvořák. Particularly noted for his interpretations of the works of Boulez, Lutosławski, and Stockhausen, he has given local and world premieres of works by Bryars, Abrahamsen, and Sokolovic and his recordings have been nominated twice for the JUNO Awards for Best Classical Composition.

Much in demand as an orchestral musician, Kevin was concertmaster of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada under Emmanuel Villaume including for an award-winning recording of Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloë. He has also led the University of British Columbia Symphony, the Westcoast Symphony, the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, and the University of London Symphony Orchestra. Kevin received third prize at the Enkor International Violin and Piano Competition and was the recipient of a Silver Medal from Canada’s Royal Conservatory of Music among other awards and prizes. He began his studies, aged six, with James Malmberg and currently studies with Nancy DiNovo, and has taken part in masterclasses with Vadim Repin, James Ehnes, Martin Chalifour and Tasmin Little. He is currently pursuing his PhD in immunology at the Francis Crick Institute in London.
