The Artist
Anson Tang is an accomplished pianist who is also a wheelchair user. As a recipient of an Individual Scholarship from the Lee Hysan Foundation, Anson is currently studying for his Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal College of Music (RCM) under the tutelage of Professor Nigel Clayton. He made history as the first wheelchair user to join RCM’s keyboard faculty.
Anson has travelled to various countries to study with renowned pianists such as Piers Lane, Artur Pizzaro and Carlo Garte. He has achieved remarkable results in both local and international competitions, including winning the VSA International Young Soloists Award in 2023 and performing at the John D Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. That same year, he received a Special Mention in the Birmingham International Music Competition.
Anson has been frequently invited to perform in public and was a Green Leaf Artist with the Arts with the Disabled Association of Hong Kong from 2015 to 2017. He gave his first piano recital in Hong Kong in 2017 and has participated in various music and art festivals, including the SPARK Festival in 2021 organized by the British Council Hong Kong, and Head-on Photo Festival in 2022 by the Royal College of Music.
Anson has cooperated with renowned musicians and arts groups, including the celebrated violinist Midori Gotō, Hong Kong pianist Ms Colleen Lee, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Asian Chamber Orchestra.
