The Artist

Christian Gautschi performs throughout Europe, showcasing repertoire from the 14th–21st centuries. He studied at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) where he got an MA in Music Education. Afterwards he graduated with an MA in Music Performance and passed his final exam with highest honours. During this time he received the Joseph Auchter prize for his efforts to make organ music more popular. He is the organist of the Reformed Church in Oerlikon, a district in the north of Zurich, where he plays a four-manual Genf organ with 60 stops.

Christian says: “As a young organist, it is very important to me to make organ music accessible to a wide audience. For this reason, I am looking for pieces of music that are outside the usual repertoire to show people how colourful and diverse organ music is. For this recital I am bringing you a special genre of organ music. In the Swiss Romantic era it was common practice to compose Pastorales (landscape moods). Often the central theme was the Alps or mountain images in general. I hope you enjoy this journey through the mountains, where a thunderstorm will come from time to time. But be reassured! Everything will end well and, surrounded by cows, nature can join in the hymn of praise.”
