The Artist
Born into a musical family in Reykjavík, Icelandic-American cellist Geirþrúður Anna Guðmundsdóttir made her debut in 2013 with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and graduated with a soloist diploma from the Reykjavík College of Music the same year. She went on to study at Northwestern University and completed her Bachelor’s degree in 2017 and holds a Master’s degree from The Juilliard School. She is currently an Advanced Diploma candidate at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studies with Hannah Roberts.
Geirþrúður regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician across the US, UK and Iceland. Her 2020-21 season featured performances of all six Bach Cello Suites in a seven-concert tour of Iceland, described by Fréttablaðið as ‘agile and passionate, the flow convincing, her interpretation full of musical insight’. Geirþrúður is the cellist of the Terra Quartet, a string quartet based in New York City, and divides her time between New York, London, and Reykjavik.
Chinese pianist Hanzhi Zhang is currently undertaking an Advanced Diploma in Piano Performance at the Royal Academy of Music under Micheal Dussek and Andrew West, supported by a RAM scholarship. Having played the piano for more than twenty years, Hanzhi has performed at prestigious concerts both in her home country and overseas. Having studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing as well as the Royal Academy of Music, she graduated from both institutions with Distinction, being awarded the prestigious DipRAM from the Academy with a Master of Arts and a Professional Diploma in 2020 and 2021. She was invited to play in the Beethoven Concert Series and she regularly plays in the Academy Song Circles Series.
Hanzhi has won numerous awards in her home country and has a strong background as a soloist and an accompaniment member. Hanzhi regularly performs in the UK and China in venues such as the Zhongshan Music Hall of Beijing, the Concert Hall of Tianjin, the Binhu Park Theater of XuZhou, St Nicholas Church, St Anne’s Church, and St Michael’s Church, among others. She has also been an established piano teacher at the Continuing College of the Central Conservatory in Beijing.
