The Artists
Márcio da Rosa started singing when he was nine years old. In 1998 he entered the Conservatório de Música do Porto to study Singing Technique and Repertoire under the guidance of Cecilia Fontes, as well as Harpsichord and Basso Contino with Maria de Lurdes Alves. Márcio has worked with various vocal groups including CCC, Casa ds Musica, Orchestra do Norte, and he works as a soloist and as a member of other diverse choirs. From 2005 he studied Singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the supervision of Adrian Thompson and privately with Susan McCulloch. In England, Márcio performs solo and in vocal groups including Opera East and the Loveday Singers. With Isabel Calado, Márcio regularly performs works from Cancioneiro de Música Popular in Portugal and abroad. Together Márcio and Isabel have two CDs with this wonderful repertoire.
Isabel Calado plays harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano. She performs regularly solo, chamber and orchestral music, in Portugal, Spain, France, United Kingdom, United States of America, Brasil, Singapore and Japan. She currently teaches Harpsichord and Basso Continuo in Conservatório de Música do Porto. She has been regularly invited since 2015 to teach harpsichord and chamber music masterclasses in Japan. She holds a superior degree in Music (Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa – Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa), Master in Music Teaching (Universidade Católica Portuguesa) and PhD in Musicology – speciality Historical Musicology (Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas – Universidade Nova de Lisboa). She received the merit prize of Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa for her accomplishments in the year 2004/2005. Since 2015 she published several CDs: Works by F. Couperin, ‘Sonatas, Toccatas and Minuetos – Autores Portugueses do século XVIII’, ‘Canções Populares Portuguesas’, ‘Canções Populares Portuguesas 2’, ‘Prussian Sonatas – C. P. E. Bach’, ‘Probestücke – C. P. E. Bach’, ‘Modinhas’, ‘Works for keyboard in three Portuguese cities: Coimbra, Lisboa and Porto’ and ‘É amor a lei suave’. In 2019 Isabel published ‘Ornamentation Described by C. P. E. Bach’ and in 2021 she published the First Book with Easy Pieces for the Harpsichord.
