The Artist
Laura MacDonald is currently studying for her Master’s at the Guildhall School with Adrian Brendel, having graduated from the Royal Academy with First Class Honours and the Regency Award for outstanding performance. Most recently she participated in the IMS Prussia Cove masterclass, Rutesheim International Cello Academy and the Virtuoso Bel Canto Festival where she recorded a section of a György Kurtág piece for the festival. She has played in masterclasses with Steven Isserlis, Leonid Gorokhov and Claudio Bohoruqez. A keen chamber musician, she plays with the Marigold Ensemble, who were the St James’s Prize winners in 2020, resulting in performances at Milton Court Hall and St James’s Piccadilly.
Charlie Woof-Byrne is 25 years old and graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2019, where he studied with Carole Presland and Christopher Elton. He has been awarded numerous prizes in several national competitions – including First Prize in the European Piano Teachers Association Competition – and has performed in prestigious venues such as St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Royal Albert Hall and St George’s Hall. He has also performed in France, Italy and Spain. He has a great love of chamber music and has worked under the guidance of eminent musicians such as Micheal Dussek, Andrew West and Alisdair Beatson.
Charlie also has interests outside the classical world: he is 1/4 of the alt-pop group Sun Silva which formed at the Royal Academy in 2017. They have since toured the UK and released several singles.
