The Artists

Alice Chua MA, FLCM, LLCM, Adv Dip Kodaly is a passionate and enthusiastic musician, dedicated and innovative teacher and educator, composer, arranger and music books author. Whilst living in Malaysia and Singapore, Alice was Chief Music Instructor for Yamaha Music Asia. She opened new schools in Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar, and started music programs for pre-schoolers in Indonesia and China. This involved training teachers and designing music curricula suited specifically for each country. She represented Malaysia in various international conferences hosted by Yamaha Music Foundation. Now residing in London with her daughter, Alice divides her time between sharing her love of music with her students, invigilating examinations and competitions in Europe and the Far East – and performing piano duets with her daughter, Mitra. She has written many music educational series used extensively in Asia and the United Kingdom. Alongside her popular Playing Piano is Fun (PpiF) series, her latest publication of Art of Teaching (AoT) was released in September 2020.

Mitra Alice Tham MA, MM, PGDipRAM, B Mus(Hons), FLCM, LRAM, LMusA, made her international debut in Japan aged eight. Originally from Malaysia, she has won many prizes at international competitions including: Rosario-Marciano Preis for the most eminent artist personality; Russischer Musikpreis for the best interpretation of Russian music; the ‘Excellent Player Award’ at the prestigious Asia Oceania Festival in Thailand, and ‘Young Millennium Pianist’ in Singapore. Mitra was a recipient of many scholarships whilst studying at the Purcell School, Royal Academy of Music and Mannes School of Music in New York. She gave the London premiere of Leroy Anderson’s Piano Concerto and was a special invitee to ‘A Celebration of Young People in the Performing Arts’ given by Her Late Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace. Mitra composed and conducted the anthem for a Malaysian mega-national project: Melaka Gateway, officiated by the Malaysian Prime Minister. She regularly gives recitals, masterclasses, lecture recitals; seminars on piano pedagogy and composition; adjudication in S.E Asia and the U.K. Launching in 2024, her latest composition commission is for another national project in Malaysia presided over by the Sultan of Johor. www.mitraalice.tham
